The Great Lakes Gelatine Company's cattle are grass fed and slaughtered in Argentina and Brazil which is controlled by their respective Department of Agriculture. These countries have the same type of rigourous tests and inspections as the United States. Beef hides are the only product used to manufacture gelatine in these countries.

  • 1. Our Gelatin and Hydrolysate contains no MSG.

Some believe that Glutamic acid or Mono sodium glutamate is contained in gelatin. This is simply not the case.

    2. Our products are all gluten free.

Gelatin and related products from Great lakes Gelatin are totally free from gluten. Glutens are the proteins found in wheat, barley and rye flours (all Triticeae plants). Wheat glutens are a problem for a small group of individuals who have allergies to these proteins (primarily for persons suffering from celiac disease). Glutens are plant derived proteins. Gelatin is produced entirely from animals and contains absolutely no gluten.

    3. How much should I take?

We recommend one to two tablespoons per day depending on your diet, activity level and need. One tablespoon in the morning and one later in the day is best. Any excess protein will simply flush out of the body without any issues to you.

    4. How should I take it?

Because it can be mixed into hot or cold foods, you can mix it in drinks, cereals, oatmeal, or any other foods that you regularly enjoy. Taking it for six to eight weeks should begin to show improvement.

    5. Heavy Metals Statement

Great Lakes Gelatin shares the concerns our customers have about heavy metals in the food that they consume. In response to misinformation found on the internet, Great Lakes Gelatin wants to clarify how we test for arsenic and other heavy metal impurities. Our specification limit for arsenic is below <0.25 parts per million. This is based on regulatory limits set by government agencies at the time of manufacture. It is a mistake to assume that the specification maximum is the amount present in our gelatine. It is difficult to test for such low levels of possible impurities. The analytical testing results for arsenic are “below detection limits”. This means that the level is below the sensitivity of the test to quantify a result.

  • Ray Peat: For years I hadn't slept through a whole night without waking, and I was in the habit of having some juice or a little thyroid to help me go back to sleep. The first time I had several grams of gelatin just before bedtime, I slept without interruption for about 9 hours. I mentioned this effect to some friends, and later they told me that friends and relatives of theirs had recovered from long-standing pain problems (arthritic and rheumatic and possibly neurological) in just a few days after taking 10 or 15 grams of gelatin each day.
